Yep, I heard a splash and then an awkward silence. ( the kids got real quite ). I knew then that he had thrown the anchor without tieing the line to the boat....

Depth gauge said 10'. but the water was so murkey....

Lesson learned. I ordered a couple of 6" buoy balls and will tie those to the non anchor end of the line so I can at least have a chance at recoverying the gear, if it ever happens again.

Otherwise a great weekend ( except for the Heat )

You would think that you could find at least the rope in the general area if it was ony 10' deep.

Please say the ancor at least had the main line attached to it and he did not have a roll or line in the boat with the ancor on the bottom.

    • Not a Box anchor. I use a 20 lb dumbell from Walmart ( about $17.00 ) attached to an anchor buddy line. Works great for keeping the back of the boat facing the way I want and also avoids issues with anchoring at the islands or sandy area's. You may stub your too if you hit it, but not worried about kids stepping on a sharp anchor edge.

I think the water was deeper near the dock. It was more than 10' deep in the area where they said the anchor went down. After 45 mins, I called it. The search area was becoming the size of a football field and I could not get a good idea of where he thought he threw it......He said he clipped the snap hook on the back of the boat....then said he snapped it in backwards and maybe the springclip wasn't completly closed......

End of the day, I'm out a new $45 rope and an old $17 dumbell. I gave him at least $63 worth of crap the rest of the day plus a little interest on top. We didn't even let him throw beers out the rest of the day for fear of them sinking.....

I'll redo this Winter so people won't be starring at or potentially stepping on my nuts.
Just bustin your chops...The Ladder will be a great Add-on. I wonder how the people at MC get them in there...

Would a long needle nose plier help? I assume a stainless lock washer would be needed...?

Based on some discussions with those with ladders from the factory, it appears they have better access (the vertical part of the deck in the anchor compartment is less of an obstruction). Without a pic, I'm only guessing, but since one was able to take a pic of the underside of the mounting area, seems like a good guess. I opted for leaving it alone. This is how tight it is in there:

Maybe MC attaches the plate and slide before mating the deck to the hull? Just glad I finally pulled the trigger on a ladder.

All I need to do is air up the small buoy. The replacement is ready to go.

Looks like that loop on your "anchor" could lossen up and slide right off.

I was thinking the same thing. If that happened then Rob would only be out a weight next time

                    • Makes it much easier to pull the rope up.....The other two did not have that loop. I'm going to loop it again thru the D ring just to be safe.

Now to pull my batteries and see what's going on with them too. I'm only getting a couple of hours on them before they need to charge. I have the onboard charger system and it worked great all last year. Time to check all the connections. The new carpet installers unhooked a lot of wires when the glued down the new stuff. I have to sort out the LED lights too.

At least it was only 98 degree's yesterday.

                      • replaced all of my brake calipers on my 2004 tandem axle trailer. the "reliable" type that were on there we not that "reliable". In fact, only only caliper has worked since the trailer left the factory in 2004. The right rear, and it has locked up on me numerous times, even blown a tire due to it.

All three other disks and pads are brand new, never been used, cuz they never have worked.

installed the new kodiak replacements, now have brakes for the first time....wonderful! (thanks Lex at Rambo!!).

                        • Four new tires on the trailer, new ignition switch, shampooed the carpet, cleaned up the main wiring harness at the rear of the engine (which was way overdue) and touched up a couple spots on the trailer where the paint needed some attention. Nothing too exciting, but stuff that was all in need of doing.

I bet it did. The carpet was my son's job and he didn't complain.............but we had 74 degrees and cloudy. Nice boat working weather.
