Here is the strange thing. Last week I had tried to change the oil after our ski sets. I did it the same way as always. End of day push the oil tube through the drain plug hole and take brass cap off and place into an empty 5 qt oil container. Plan was to come back next day and replace the filter and add new oil when engine is cool.

When I got back to boat next day, my discard oil container was empty. None of the warm oil had drained out from the drain tube. It was all still in the engine. Not sure of what was keeping the oil from flowing out the drain tube.

Today the oil drained Just fine.
Maybe a lil piece of chit in the hose??? could have been.... As slow as the oil drains, that hose has a really small ID and I don't reckon it would take much to clog it up.... maybe???????

      • Drained my oil, still need to refill, but got called in to work before I could do it. "Fixed" my fuel gauge, we'll see if it stays fixed. Greased my rudder since I had the fuel tank out. By the way guys, if any one was wondering like I was, a 97 ps205 has a 31 gal fuel tank. I also tried to grease the steering cable, but when I pulled the grease gun off and turned the steering wheel grease shot out of the zerk. I couldn't believe it!! I guess the little BB valve chose right then to give up the ghost. So on the way back home I need to pick up a new zerk. I've never bought one before, but I sure do enjoy saying the word ZERK. I also put some monster cable terminals on my tower speaker wires. I like to take them off when I drive to or from lake powell (1000miles) so it doesn't shake the tower so bad the whole way, and it is really hard shoving a wad of twisted wire back through the tiny hole on the screw down terminal of the speaker.

My '89 does the same thing. I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think that zerk fitting has a check ball, I think it's designed to expel the excess - so that too much pressure doesn't build up.

Actually, the proper name for what you are calling a "grease zerk" is actually an alemite.

I know a lot of people call these things "zerks" but I don't know why... Prolly the same reason some call wheels, props...

The true meaning of zerk from the webster dictionary is: a stupid person; a jerk. : Don't be a zerk! Do what you're told.

              Here is an alemite:

People are still gunna call them "zerks" just like they are still gunna call a wheel a "prop"

Alemite is the company that invented the zerk fitting.

You are correct, sir! There was someone on here not too long ago that replaced the Zerk and pumped it up with grease and then could hardly turn the wheel. Just give it some grease and work the wheel, then wipe up the excess. Might do that a time or two to make sure enough grease gets worked in.

                          • I shamelessly copied the raw water intake flush kit posted in the lengthy Maristar thread:

                            OPs:

                            Mine fabricated today:

                            $18.97 in parts from Lowes.

I literally printed out picture, walked in and referenced picture while putting together kit.

Thanks to the OP. Slick setup IMHO.

                            • Started winterization today. Ran the RV antifreeze in and fogged the engine just as the pail was running out of antifreeze. Drained the raw water line. Will finish the remainder tomorrow evening.
