Ok so my OCD was getting to me and I picked the boat up at the fiberglass shop yesterday. After all I've done to the boats I've restored it made no sense to let somebody else make this repair. I got started on it today and will post pics of my progress. I got the log cut out and all old fiberglass removed. I cleaned the surrounding area really well and have the log epoxied back in. I will lay the fiberglass mat tomorrow. All is going well!!

Boy, does that look familiar! I was a little intimidated by the job at first, but it's not that bad once you get into it. I used polyester for the final glass work, but I think epoxy might be better. What are you using?

Tph I agree 100 percent! I kinda freaked out at first that's why I took it to the fiberglass guy but this job really hasn't been bad! I'm using epoxy on the entire job with high density filler added to bond the log to the hull.its going really well!

That's right! That's a big reason that I went and got the boat back because I knew if I did it myself I would do it the right way and would feel good about it. Thanks for the support!!

Haha mike I definitely celebrated with a beer or twelve last night!! Gotta do the fiberglass matting today and hope to make a few slalom runs tomorrow afternoon it's suppose to be 70 degrees here!

Two layers of fiberglass mat applied. Should I do a third??

How did you get the log off? did you just cut around the edge and pry it off?

Mike after I ground the fiberglass mat around the log off it lifted right out so im guessing the original adhesive had deteriorated and that's why it was leaking water.

Well that was easy - yikes... I guess you don't need much to hold it in place... thanks... good info for future reference...

Yea I don't know what kind of adhesive was there originally but I epoxied it back in with a thick bead using high density filler in the epoxy resin mixture. It should give no more problems.

Third layer of fiberglass mat done. Will install new packing material tomorrow and take it to the lake. Really a straight forward simple job. I will pick up some bilge paint this week and cover repaired area.
