  • Re-glassing Pylon

1980 S&S. Had a glass failure around the bottom plate for the pylon end of last season, anything I should be cautious of before reglassing it in. Or a preferable alternative?

Don't glass it, bolt it down, and never worry again!
On my '77 S&S the pylon based lined up with the skeg. I fabricated a new base that matched the bolt spacing of the skeg, ground off all the old crappy glass and bolted it in place.

If I was going to tear into it, i would make it like the new ones with 4" angle between the stringers. Cap the angle on each end. Glass in a steel plate on either side of the stringer and through bolt it.

If you don't have enough access, bellinghamster's fix looks good too
