Prostar 205 Windshield

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some help in finding a windshield for my 1997 Prostar 205. The port side windshield was smashed up in a storm before I purchased the boat and I'm finding it quite difficult to find anything even close to the original. I would prefer an OEM option as I want to keep the boat looking original but if it comes down to it, something else similar would also do. Any help would be appreciated. Contact Taylor made. They made the original, but you won't find a new one in stock anywhere. They offer to make replacements, but I have no idea what the cost might be.

Do you have the frame? If not options get significantly more expensive. I went through this almost 15 years ago and it was next to impossible to find a 10 year old windshield back then. It always seems to be the left side that breaks, so right sides were available. Although 2-3 years ago a guy was able to find a replacement for his on a similar project. Search for the thread, it's well documented, and get in touch with him. If you're unable to source, it's $3,000 plus for a custom built windshield. Good luck!

There was another thread on here in the last year where someone found a supplier to make the glass. It may have been polycarbonate but the poster was very happy with it. The big questions will be if you have the frame.

You are probably not going to want to hear my expierence, but just went through this with my 2008 ProStar. Current Watersports in Cincinnati did the work and it took TaylorMade and MasterCraft 9 months to get the new windshield in. Boat was just finished this week after it was broken last spring.

Pretty common story. Someone finds a boat cheap with a broken windshield and buys it without researching a replacement then get the shock of what a replacement costs if they can find one. I know I nearly did this on a Nautique years ago.

If you're willing to go with something other than OEM sometimes Greatlakes Skipper will have something but then you're talking a full windshield and you're back into a couple grand minimum for a replacement.

I actually found a Prostar being sold really cheap last fall after a tree fell on it, unfortunately the starboard side was the one that was still intact. I do not have the frame, that was thrown out by the last owner On the bright side, I got the boat for cheap enough that a full price replacement is not the end of the world but I really don't like the sound of paying that much for a windshield.

They have a bunch listed, just check width...the moomba doesn't look bad, worth a shot to give them a call. They have 8 pages listed then it gets to parts.

If you decide to go with a full replacement, i would be willing to purchase the good drivers side that you have, I have been searching all over for one!

That's because people take the check and instead of spending it on actually fixing the window they just sell the boat and keep the check which to be fair is a good ways towards the price of a boat!

I need to fix the glazing on of a curved piece.. scares me to death to tray to fix.

Like 7 inches. Is there a thread on how to disassemble the windshield?

For reference: did this on my 1994 205 how I did it.

not hard. Which piece, top or bottom. tools: screw driver, putty knife(only if real glass), painters tape(very important), soapy water(boot butter), maybe a rubber hammer. Correct glazing!

1) tape glass next to glazing(reference) when reassembling, you'll know when glass is fully seated.
2)top or side glazing, can be done...with windshield attached to boat. If doing bottom, just take the whole windshield off, as a single unit. (Just easier to work around)
3) It is a two man job. It can be done, by one, but dropping a windshield is, not good.
4) apply soapy water to glazing, install in frame. apply soap in glazing slot. Install glass.
You may have to tap on the frame, to get windshield seated. NOT the glass.
5) Some, put glazing on windshield 1st(without soap), then install in frame(just soaping the glazing.
