  • 2003 X2 "Restoration" Thread

I have a bunch of threads sprawled out all over this place, so figured I'd start a thread with some pictures of the progress now that things are starting to move along.

Boat is in fantastic shape, but some things have started popping up over the last 2-3 years that tend to show her age and we want to invest in having them addressed so that we can continue to fully enjoy her.

Today was a full decal removal, wet sand, compound, polish and wax.

    Here are the "before" pics:

Thanks! Pics don't do it justice. It is so clean and the lines are so much better from the profile without that big tribal X2 on the sides.

I bought both satin white and satin black raised 'MasterCraft' decals. I'm going to go with the black. The white were from ~07 I believe and the black from ~2014 model years. Exact same and I think they're actually the same as what they're using now. 47in wide, 5in tall. Then for the transom, I bought a chrome chromex MasterCraft transom decal that is 34in wide x 3in tall.

Looks great and I have to comment on the neighborhood. I love that everyone takes such pride in their landscaping.

Thank you. Yeah, we're pretty fortunate to live in a great neighborhood with great neighbors. I wish we could take credit for the landscaping though. We pay HOA to take care of our front yards.

Very nice! The tribal decal really dates these boats imo...

Excited to see the other things you are going to do.

The tribal decals are the "tramp stamps" of boating. Looked sexy at the time but certainly didn't age well.

That looks great. Can't wait to see the final product with the new decals and more importantly, the new interior.

Now let talk about that trailer - she needs a good wash.

HA! Yeah, the trailer will be getting some love too, but what I really need to do is have it repainted, which unfortunately is incredibly inconvenient without a slip or lift. I have new LED's on the way from Pete, am close to ordering custom step pads and will be adding new wheels/tires. The fenders will get polished up before I apply the new pads.

What do you guys think? Which one? Leaning all black (matte). Think they might hold up better over time from a finish perspective.

I like the brushed and black, but either would look good. Reach out to Peter on here for pricing.

Brushed and black as well. The black thing is starting to get old IMO but then again so am I.

Maybe the kids still like the black look but to me it looks cheap. You can make junk look good with a thick coat of powder coat or enough black paint, I like seeing the machining detail.
