  • 2005 - 2006 Tower Pads - made new ones

Next new project - making replacement 2005 to 2006 Tower Pads. Since the factory no longer makes these parts I was forced to make my own. I started with a custom cast sheet of black polyuretane, 70 durometer, 3/16" thick. Next, I traced the outline of each tower foot and had my machinist mill them to the requirement dimensions using a bandsaw and belt sander. Finally, the mounting hardware holes were added and finished. Now to reinstall the tower this weekend.

Cost: $35 for the polyurethane sheet
Machine Work: 6 pack of beer
Tower Installation help: One trip to Starbucks for a Grande Vanilla Bean Frap, No Whip and a Cake Pop for my 10 year daughter.

Satisfaction that I'll never have to replace these in my lifetime - PRICELESS

    Pictures are forthcoming this weekend.

Man I hope you made more than one set, you know for other people with '05 X-stars with the tower pads squeezing out!

Seriously, did you? I need a set. (At least for the front legs)

Nope, I only made one set just like when I did the throttle level pad grommets. I guess I'm not into production mode yet. Also, your front and rear tower feet are completely different than mine.

Sorry buddy but they are really easy to make.

True, I was just being lazy. I need to make a set, do you know where I can get the material?
I was going to use truck flap material, thick rubber. Not sure how it would hold up.

And yes, after I posted my comment I remembered you have an X-30 not an X-star.

          Dave -

I got the sheet molded by:

          Universal Urethane Products, Inc.

Polyurethane bar, rod, sheet stock. Best prices on internet directly from manufacturer. Choose from any sizes, custom colors and many durometers.

          The sheet measured 3/16" x 14 1/2" x 24" - 70/75 durometer black. Cost was $37.50 shipped to Seattle, WA.

He had is done in a week.

            Lets see some pics, Tom!

            Dave,

About a year ago, someone on ebay was making pads for the X-star.

My new tower pads were one of the best mods I have done. mfunf did a superb job on them.

Those are molded and very beautiful. I didn't want to push my luck with my machinist to make 2 molds (1 front, 1 back) for me. He would do it but this was the next best (and quicker) option. I was going to design 3 dimensional pads using ProE and then have them made by our new 3-D printer but our material wasn't a high enough durometer.

Again, I would loved to have a set like your's Sodar.

I was on the path to do the same thing you did. 3D printer, huh? Have you seen the YouTube video of the crescent wrench being made with one? Pretty sweet!

I was fortunate to ask the question on here and mfunf said "Ship the tower legs to me". It was just happenstance and perfect timing!

Made mine from some shoe sole material purchased from a shoe repair shop. See post #82 from this thread: http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/...ght=Tower+pads

Pictures of the new tower pads. Hopefully I will never have to do this again. Unfortunately, when re-installing the tower, the section that folds backwards caught on the rear bench seat and put a little tear in the upholstery. Next project - new interior with 2013 material.

Those look great. Really clean install. I had Jim make me some new ones while the boat was at Viper. They're very similar to the ones mfunf had fabricated. Should outlast the boat.

Nice job! Those look much better. I was amazed ate what MC had put on my boat. Looked like it was cut by a 4 year old with child proof scissors.

Mine have smashed out on my back legs of an 05 tower. Do you by chance have access to more of these? If so how much would you want?

GoinBoatin - if you are talking about the pads I made unfortunately I can't make any more.
