Older ZFT Over-Tower Bimini Build

At 6'3" I'd had enough of the low mounted bimini on the X9. By reusing two of the original factory bows, 4 universal tower clamps, and a few odds and ends I was able to make up a custom over-tower bimini. I reused 3 of the 4 the quick-connect mounting points so it can be opened/closed in no time.

This is more or less a proof of concept as my sewing skills aren't superb...but it works! No flapping when opened and I can walk under it.

Nicely done! If you lengthen the legs on the rear bow, and add some extra material, you can extend the bimini back another foot or so.
I didn't do this, came this way when I bought the boat. It's a two-piece bimini- there's a zipper that connects the front and rear sections, right behind the tow point on the tower. Honestly, I wish it was about 12 inches longer on each end, but as it is, it shades quite a bit of the main cabin area.

G, Can you resend that picture? It's not showing up.

I'm curious how yours has the back bow. My dilemma was the longer you make the bows, the higher it sticks up past the tower when folded. I tried to make sure it all was pretty even at the top when folded up.

As far as the back bow, yes, it will stick up past the tower- on mine, I just remove it when the boat's back on the trailer. Each of the legs attaches to the tower with a screw knob. There are two zippers, one on each side of the tower ball. Then the two straps that go to the back of the tower base legs. I'll admit, it's a bit of a hassle to put on/take off (takes about 5-8 minutes or so, but the extra length and coverage is worth it.

G, I do like the further extension towards the back. Maybe I'll get some motivation for a rev2 version down the road.
