  • *** Surviving The Off Season ***

So I figured I'd start a thread where we can talk about what the northern MC owners are doing to manage this time to reflect on last season and rebuild, restore, upgrade our boats. As well as other activities and interests for winter. I know I've seen a couple other snowmobilers on here and some pilots etc. A good way to get advice, idea's, on many topics. So I'll start:

The maristar is getting a new interior in the cockpit. New front seat and rear sun pad etc. Also a new snap on sunbrella cover for bow and cockpit (I leave mine in the water 24/7 and theres no canopy) As well as perfect pass just needs installed. After that I still have some stereo tinkering, interior lighting and possibly that decadence flooring. Was finally winterized two days ago.

I'll be planning many snowmobile trips. If anyones interested I am selling my lady's sled. I have just ordered new 136" camoplast track with rail extension and tunnel extension kit since last year destroyed my track.

Planning trips out west for snowmobiling and snowboard/skiing.

What are you guys doing and planning?

Hoping to teach my 9 year old daughter how to ski this winter. Also I hit the NY boat show and the Philly auto show each January.

Every New Years Day my former ski club near Philly Pa does "ski freeze" on the river so this year I'm going for it.......board shorts only, no wetsuits allowed!

Planning a trip to Key Largo in January, if time allows I'll get in a set of wakeboarding.

The prostar trailer needs a new brake actuator, maybe a new stereo too.
                      I was njskier on here.

That sounds cool man. I do a polar plung for cancer here in lake Michigan every year. I think they have a ski related polar plunge thing too but not part of it.

Im headed back to dallas on saturday. Maybe pick up a new wake surf board to test if I can ever hitch a ride in texas.

We ski and snowboard during winter pretty actively. Last year's big trip was at "Between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, two regions have merged across the Franco-Swiss border to form a single region known as Portes du Soleil. The world's largest international ski area includes 12 charming ski resorts in France and Switzerland, among them Champéry." We stayed in a chalet in Champery along with friends of ours who live in Germany. Being not too far from Lake Tahoe, we spend quite a few weekends skiing at one of the resorts there. I also run our Scout Troop's yearly snow camping outing - nothing like digging a hole in snow and sleeping in it. I't actually pretty comfortable in a properly constructed snow structure. I also love snowshoeing. Honestly, winter is the best time of year to visit Yosemite although I've done a 50 mile backpacking trip (turned into 60 miles) in the northern section a couple summers ago and ran into very few people once we were a few miles in.

In between summer and winter, I scuba dive. Monterey Bay is not too far and has several good diving sites. I was at Pt Lobos about a week ago which is a CA State preserve. Visibility was 100+ ft which is the best conditions I've ever experienced in Nor Cal waters and most likely ever will as it is very rare to have such conditions here.

I'm going to get one last day wakeboarding on the Delta either Friday or Saturday and then I'll call it quits until spring. I'll "winterize" after that. I'll start wakeboarding again right after snow ski/board season - typically early April.

Dec 1-2 I have a backpacking trip planned for Pt Reyes National Seashore.

Short story - I don't have an off season. Just a change of activities.

We are possibly skiing Tuckerman's Ravine if the weather looks good this spring. Core trips planned so far are P 2 weeks at Berkenridge, CO and a 4 day weekend at Killington, VT
