Just curious if I am the only one who thinks like this...

You tie up in a cove, people walk across your boat. If they have athletes foot or some other bacteria that spreads, congrats..you now have traces of it on your boat to spread to your family/friends.

I think this is a whole new level of mcocd. The only solution is to spray down your entire carpet with tinactin after every day on the lake lol

Athletes foot is a communicable fungus that is transferable from person to person. But the only way it actually becomes anything of a problem is if it is incubated for a period of time in a warm moist place, such as a shoe.

Commonly called athletes foot because athletes will use common showers and contract the bacteria and then put on a shoe and perform a sport for hours and making the foot burn and itch.

So unless it is the rule on your boat that you must wear your shoes all the time you shouldn't worry.

If you are that worried, just wash off your feet before going home in clean water and you should be fine.

On a side note, Athletes foot is just a nice way of saying "ring worm"

The fungus of athletes foot would not like at all the carpet of a boat as it would not be able to survive. Your carpet is too much in the sun for it to stand a chance. You would have to be in the clouds for days and your carpet would have to be wet the whole time. Do not worry in 40+ years of boating I have never known anyone to get athletes foot from a boat. Fell free to sleep at nights now.

If it was transferred by casual contact, then no one should ever go barefoot again. If you keep your feet clean and dry you won't have a problem.

BTW, the fungus that causes athlete's foot ("tinea pedis") doesn't transfer from person to person, it's not a bacterium, and it's not the same as ringworm.

You are correct, I was kidding about the ring worm. That was an old joke my grandpa used to tell about athletes foot. He also connected the joke to jock itch and swore everything could be cured with Gold Bond lol.

It is not a bacterium even though bacteria infections can arise from untreated athletes foot. ie trench foot. I was wrong on that. I don't know why I contradicted my self and called it a fungus in one part and bacteria in the next. However, it is not transferable by direct contact, I'll be clearer on that. It is transferable person to person through communal area's.

Yes, bacterial infections ("cellulitis") can arise from athlete's foot, but trench foot is not a bacterial infection.
