      • He's a keeper..............at least while he is still wearing my teams colors.

But other than JoPa and Bowden, it seems to be the way of the coaching world. I don't expect Saban to be at Bama for ever, nor do I expect him to tell the fans and players anything, should someone start calling him to come over to their side.

Last year Utah whips Alabama. Two years before that, Boise State stuns Oklahoma. Now you have two good teams that could make some noise in the bowl games again, so what does the BCS do? They make them play each other. What a bunch of crap. Are they afraid that either of these teams will beat one of the "big boys" again and put more pressure for a playoff? I'm calling RAT on this one. The BCS doesn't want a playoff and the opponent selection this year is glaring proof.
If at this moment you told me we could forever have a playoff system if we implemented it right now, even if it meant Texas might not end up playing for the NC as is currently the case, I'd say let's have the playoff system. In our current system, I'm always wishing we'd get to play more varied and difficult teams for our out of conference games. Tough or not, if you don't win those games, you watch the big game at the end of the year in your living room. Simple as that. However, since my undefeated team was was ranked no lower than 3rd all year, I'd be more than a bit ticked if I had to hear about style points for a second year in a row.

Bring on the playoff system! As it stands, I've got six weeks of no football that I'm willing to watch.

16 teams all conference winners plus 5 at large. 4 weeks of football to fill that 6 weeks. Won't happen in the near future, but it would have been interesting this year.

              • A playoff system that takes the top 8 ranked teams and puts them into a playoff would close many of the arguments. It adds two more weeks of games and the top 2 teams could still play for the NC a couple days after New Years, and the rest of the teams could be divided up between the other bowls as it is now. We still have the bowl games, we have a REAL championship game, and the bowls still make thier money. Everybody is happy. Makes sense to me.

First off, I'm for a playoff, but. Several of the lower/lesser bowls would have a hard time selling tickets if there were a playoff system.
What if we started the playoff with the lower/lesser bowl games. Working the teams and bowl games down to the final teams and the current BCS NC bowl rotation? That way the big bowls will still get their NC game every few years and the other bowls will get a share of the pie as teams work through the playoffs.

Back up a minute. No style points this year. My team needed a win and a win is what we got. It's real enough for the system we have. If we had a playoff system, I'd deal with it. But, then again, if canaries carried .45's, cat's wouldn't f*ck with 'em.

I know Texas and Alabama aren't the only undefeated teams. But it's as real as it can be under what we're stuck with. It's not like Cinci, Boise, or TCU beat us or Alabama earlier in the season and we're still headed to the NC with a loss. My team had to eat a BCS sh|t sandwich last year and watch a team we beat go to the big game. I'd have been fine with Texas Tech going last year since they did beat us, but then OK would have had as reasonable of a gripe. And 'round it went, and we all still want a playoff system. But we still don't have one. and this year ain't last year. So I'm calling it REAL and they can have their sandwich with mustard or whatever kills that nasty flavor. Way it goes with what we have. When we have better, I'll call it ice cream.

                      • One big hurdle facing these propsals is exams... a playoff would require an extra two games (minimum) heading into exams. These are obviously something that can't be changed just for the players, so the season schedule would most likely have to start earlier to make this happen.

Do away with the conference championship games. They way the Big Ten finished, you could get finals in before the final 4. Not like any one of the schools involved with a playoff would have a hard time with their players making up finals. Conference championship games are unfair anyway since not all conferences have them. Alabama vs Fla this year is a prime example.

That only eliminates games for a few teams that would be in the playoff picture though. To your other point, as I understand it the NCAA will not change or alter exam scheduling for entire teams (plus, aren't they going there to get an education???). I am ALL for a playoff, but this is one of the challenges they will face.
