Strength of Schedule
The way they calculate SOS (strength of schedule) makes it virtually worthless. It is calculated simply by adding the win/loss records of all your opponents.
Using that metric, the Illinois game against Arkansas State (10-2) increased their SOS as much as Stanford's game against USC (10-2) increased theirs. Wisconsin's SOS improved more from their game against Northern Illinois (10-3) than it did against Nebraska (9-3).
SOS is one of those things that looks meaningful until you look at how they come up with it.
