This smells like Jim Tressel to me. He said he knew nothing of it at the Media days, and then writes a letter stating he mis-spoke and "was not prepared to answer those types of questions".

Not for me to determine. If he misspoke that's one thing. If he lied then that's a problem.

You know what's funny, 10, 15, 20 years ago no one would have given a crap about this.

Do I think he should be fired even if he lied? Not really. I mean in the scope of the program does it really matter? No, not really. He found out about the arrest and fired the guy.

Now what's going on at Maryland is a real problem because that kid DIED. Those guys could face criminal charges for manslaughter.

Here's something to ponder...Let's say, they give Urban a 2-4 game suspension, and maybe Gene Smith gets fired or resigns or he gets some kind of official reprimand. What happens after that? You think things go back to normal? I'm sure THEY hope that they would. But, what if 100,000 #metoo protesters show up in Columbus? That's not going to be a good look for the University. Are they then going to have to modify the punishments to save face? Are the smart enough to even think that far in advance?

I mean you can't be too smart if you're not prepared to talk about the history of controversial coach at the largest media event of the year, a mere 1 day after you fired the guy. right?

Public figures of all kinds are under the greatest amount of scrutiny in history. Twitter loves this BREAKING NEWS ****. TMZ is worse. Sad really. People f up, make bad decisions all the time, its called being human. Destroying someone’s life should not be your objective as a member of the media, and frankly, they thirst for it. A 2-4 game suspension for what? Potentially misleading the media? Zach Smith wasn't charged with anything under the 2015 incident. When the mother of the daughter comes out and says her daughter is making most of this up, just wow. I actually work in Powell (where Zach Smith lived). We have a couple of female accountants that knew about Courtney through a friend. They said she was crazy as well. There were reports about her basically creating a "cry wolf" situation with the police. They are Ohio State fans so I basically all I said to myself is "time will hopefully tell" . Then the other story came out with both mothers backing Zach... Not a good look for the Courtney.

Urban was prepared to talk about why he recently fired a coach. He gave enough details to try to state why he had been let go, but didn't want to get further into for the sake of that family. He wasn't prepared to talk about the 2015 incident where no one was charged. Urban sounded like perhaps he heard that Zach Smith was charged with a crime, which if that's the case then he's right to say someone making up a story for a headline is dumb.

For the record, when the news first broke, I said if Urban covered up domestic violence, he deserves to be fired. If anyone above him covered it up, they deserve to be fired. It doesn't look like any of this is the case.

Under Title 9 rules, If you have any reason to suspect you are required to report it. It is not your job to investigate nor decide to pursue or not. That is what the Title 9 office is for. I agree with some of the comments about you are guilty first but in today's world, you better error on the side of caution if you suspect anything. Sad but true folks......

Not really much news here. 2 week investigation was started on Sunday.

Also the article is incorrect. He was let go not for past issue in 2015 or 2009, but for recently actually getting charged with criminal trespassing when he tried to drop off his kid to her.

Another way to look at it is they are taking two weeks to build a case to let him go. After Zach Smith claimed that Gene Smith called him to be on the first plane back to Columbus back in 2015 for the allegations, that seemed enough for me to exonerate Meyer. His superiors knew about the allegations and there still aren't any reports of Meyer covering anything up (which is why he would be let go_

You would have thought someone would have ask Gene "did you know about this? did anyone from Meyer's camp report it to you?" I seemed like that answer was yes, so Urban followed that protocol.
