  • What you end up with is:

    1. Ohio State
    2. Alabama
    3. Georgia
    4. Texas
    5. Michigan
    6. LSU

    Questions:
    1. Did Urban Meyer under achieve?
    2. Shouldn't it be OSU and Alabama? not Alabama and Clemson?
    3. Isn't Dabo hitting it out of the park?
    4. Who's on one list and not the other...meaning whos about to show up to the party? My answer: Texas A&M and Oregon.

These numbers look way too high to me based upon some preliminary research.

EDIT: The closest thing I could find to numbers that high are in this Business Insider article which is referencing all athletic programs, not just college football

It's available in a number of places. For my quick analysis, I lifted it from this SI.com article:

Thanks for posting. That's definitely the most recent article I've seen on the subject. However, keep in mind that the data is from the 2016-2017 season and the number totals are athletic revenue, not football spend.

            1. Nah, I don't think you'll find any Buckeye fan who could possibly think that, his winning % is at .902 here and he won or tied the division every year, won a couple conference championships, beat UM every year, and won a National Championship. Alabama being this dominant isn't really something we've seen since the super early days of CFB or maybe the Miami/Nebraska dynasty years (this surpasses even those, though), so I don't really like to compare our success to the even more and basically unseen success Alabama is currently seeing.
            2. Maybe. There are always teams that will do more with less though. Even though they're currently slumping, Michigan State is a good example of a team that has been doing a lot with lower level recruits than their competition.
            3. Dabo is most certainly hitting it out of the park. He's built a machine at Clemson, and (again) without this ridiculous Alabama dynasty, Clemson could have been the "ridiculous" story.
            4. I think Oregon is on the down turn, unfortunately. Despite their success coming up through and just after the Chip Kelly era, and the money being pumped into the program by big daddy Nike, I just don't see them hitting a stride again for a while (sorta like Miami). Texas A&M could very well come up, but a lot now rides on Jimbo with his crazy contract. They play in a very hard division, and it'll be difficult to get to where they want to be because of the (here they are again) Alabama dynasty currently in progress. As for who will be the next first time National Champion? I honestly have no idea...the last one was Florida in 1996.

            • The SEC has long dominated the sport on the field, winning nine of the last 12 national championships, and the conference is also the strongest when it comes to money: Our financial top 25 features 10 teams from the SEC, the most from any conference. The Big Ten comes next with seven programs, and no other conference has more than three teams on our list. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the SEC and the Big Ten are the two conferences that have experienced tremendous success with their conference-specific networks. from this Forbes article that talks about revenue and profit:

                    Excellent points!

On Oregon, you have to account for these two things:
                    1. Current Head Coach - Mario Cristobal: played at Miami during their hey day, coached at Bama under Saban
                    2. Look at their current recruiting class:

Yep. However it does give some good insight into the money that is available for the athletic programs at the university.

Appreciate you taking the time to run the numbers. I could have gotten to most of the teams on your list but a couple surprised me.

It's the short week after New Years. It's a slow week! My parking lot isn't even a third full and the garage is a ghost town. I'm sitting in a 14 person conference room with 2 other people
