My Dog is Digging!!!!

How do you stop a dog from digging? Our weimaraner has, been digging in our yard, and now in the neighbors. I have done the crap in the hole but need something more effective. This drives me nuts, and now its happening to the neighbors.

Or...

A few coins in a tin can, called a rattle can. Rattle it when the dog does the unwanted behaviour such as digging or barking. They hate the sound of metal on metal.

Also wonder if trimming the dogs nails would help?

They make a type of pepper to put in bird seed to keep squirrels away....its hot.

I'm kind of a dog nerd and forgive me if you know all this.

I am sure you know but that breed is high energy and they need to be challenged both mentally and physically. Exercise alone may not help. I had the same issue with another breed that is also intelligent and high energy (Australian shepherd).

Make sure when you walk them they are not walking you. Change direction a lot, walk in front, don't let them stop and mark Make them sit and invite them out and do the reverse when he/she comes in the house.

Different walking routes get there brain working as well. I also had success getting my dogs brain working by hiding treats in the house and having him search for them. Put a bowl on top of the treat for another level of problem solving. Good luck.

Also deterrents are helpful but wont deal with the underlying cause and he/she may turn to something else destructive.

Bury this a few inches deep next to the fence or if you dont mind having a few inches exposed then staple to the bottom of the fence and bury the rest.
