Another ford 5.0 with issues. Well, not the engine this time but the transmission connected to it. A 2016 with 128K miles and tranny issues. Doesn't tow, just drives 90 miles a day round trip to a work site. Dennis Leary is a liar.....

Fram has the nice grippy thing on it. Must have a patent as I’m not aware of any others.

Coming from a guy that owns a 5.0 f150, can we PLEASE stop bumping this thread.... lol. Mine is just a 2011, but coming up on when all manufacturers seem to have their valve train issues in terms of miles. In 2011, I felt like I was buying the truck that had the least chance of the engine imploding on itself. Chevy seemed like the worst at the time with the 5.3, what a mess.

Haha, my bad. The amount of money we've spent fixing these, I can't help but gripe about it and hope someone has a recommendation.

Back in 2011 you were probably alright. We didn't start having serious issues until 2015 or so. We are definitely DONE with fords at my company.

Two weeks ago a 2017 with the 5.0 had the solenoids for the cam phasers (or something like that) went out to the tune of about $1500.

So, a 2016 with the 5.0L Wiley-Coyote now has a bad transfer case and the tranny is shuddering. 201K miles. I think this truck is going bye-bye. I can't see putting several thousand into a 200K mile truck. What to buy next......any suggestions? Toyota has a new platform, chevy won't put the 5.3 to bed, and......I can't get my head wrapped around Dodge. Hell, I'm considering Nissan at this point. Only thing I know for SURE is it won't be Ford again. That ship has sailed.

Didn't they just go all turbo 6's and sunset the V8?

I thought that was coming in 2024 with the change in generation(s) of the Tacoma and the Tundra, etc. Easily I could be wrong but thanks for the memory jog.

captain planet Yep. New tundra has a 3.5L turbo 6. Its been getting good numbers and reviews. Although the cost for a tundra jumped about 10k over the previous generation (up to 2021).

waterlogged882 Tundra update came first and I think you may be right about the update to the midsize group in a couple years. I am really hoping they put this 3.5L turbo in the 4runner. That would make the 4runner unbeatable.

Is Nissan still a copy of a mid 90's Chevy?
Try the RAM cool-aid.........too bad you put all those miles on it. You could lease and give it back.

Haha, they wouldn't want them back. With all the mud that gets packed under them, they probably weigh 300 lbs more when we get rid of them. And paying the mileage, we could buy 2 of them.

There is a company down the way from us that has Nissan. They say they have good luck with them, but they aren't putting near the mileage on them we are. I've read of some drivetrain issues in recent years from Nissan. We may be drinking Ram cool-aid.

I'm a GM guy through and through, and I love my Tundra. I was skeptical, but now I'm a believer.

Also I'll throw in my .02 on oil filters...NAPA Gold pls.
