This is weird. Sure you could formulate an opinion on how things were 21 years ago..... but how would you even know now? Lol
21? Is that new math? 😃 Try 31.
I can formulate opinions based on how things are currently because with the exception of this year, I have been in Cozumel at least 1x per year and a few times 2x in the same year since 2011, and another 8x prior.
Baloney, Scooters no problem. Pay attention to your driving.
Suit yourself. The drivers in [at least] in Cozumel are really bad and I have seen 1-3 accidents per trip… Imagine how many that adds up to per year. Last trip we saw two - one that was a few broken bones and a head wound and another was a fatality on the south end outside of town.
SlalomJunkie, would you like Cozumel if the diving sucked there? No offense in any way, but seems the folks that talk it up the most are the divers. It may be magnificent otherwise as well, but that's just my observation. I'll also add that sargassum isn't unique to Moon Palace. It's bad most of the time from Isla all the way down to Belize. Moon Palace is a great AI resort if AI's are your thing.
Will never do AI again and we opt for small boutique hotels, or VRBO's and independently explore.
None taken… I can actually speak to your question.
I went to Cozumel Dec 2017 and we fell victim to El Norte. For those that may not know, that’s a strong northern wind that blows in during the winter months and they close the ports to all boats, even the ferrys… So we went a full week in Cozumel without being able to dive, swim, beach, etc… IT SUCKED and we were bored… It was colder than you think and the winds beat you down. I'll never go in December again.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the bars and restaurants there, and the diving is the best bang for your buck in the Caribbean… It is not the best diving, I have experienced much more mind blowing scuba than Cozumel. But Cozumel is cheap and close.
Yes, the sargassum is not unique to moon palace, but the water is not clear and pretty like north of it. East cost of that Yucatan all gets it.

You haven’t been to Cancun since 1999. That’s 21 years. Unless it’s 2030 and I don’t know it lol
Oh man, yeah, I was thinking cozumel, that was 1990, 1st time. Cancun was ~1989, ~1994 and ~1999...
I think my experience there would still hold up because nature wont change (surf, sargassum and murky water @ MP) much... I would think the city would have only gotten larger more crowded since then.

I will second El Norte in December. We went in December 2019 with the intention of diving everyday. First day was fine but the sea was shut down the remainder of the week and it was too cold to sit on the beach or hang out in the pool.

We are going to Cancun for MLK weekend. Any tips would be appreciated.
If you havent selected a hotel yet, I would target this area for a place to stay if you like a calm protected beach. Take your ski and get a set in @ the ski school...

There's a ski school in the hotel zone? I may have to check that out.
Theres a ski school right there in the lagoon behind the hotels zone too
I skied right there in the lagoon before. I met a guy on a skiing website and he actually came in his prostar and picked me and my brother up at a dock right across the street from my resort we were staying in. Crystal clear water

I may have to try that! Would be neat to ski the lagoon!
