Since you did not ask...
I'd work around the lettering...tape, extra time, tedious detail, a model car paint brush, etc. Just work around it.
Liberally, tape over the entire lettering layout. Use an Exacto knife and cut out the crevices, etc. Use a HVLP sprayer and a pancake...

Certainly a likely consideration. No guarantee but I have seen that scenario more than once.
A shredded impeller is often a dry (water starved) impeller.

Best on the solution. I (or many others here) can walk you through it.

Bingo.
That being the case of tied into the raw water, OJ has their style of seal that feeds and drains from the outside. Nothing ties to the engine for cooling water.
Ideally a fellow would have isolated that raw water feed line to contain the antifreeze. It appears; no foul,...

There is / was a bonding wire at the filler neck of the fuel cell. Acts as a static ground when fueling to prevent a possible static spark.
If you don't have it, that is OK. I have seen many with, and some without.
Dash looks good. You did well cutting the perimeter at the...Last edited by waterlogged882; 04-10-2024, 07:23 PM.

I got nothing for the V, however Rob is spot on with the fluid type.
I will say this; off the wall, I thought I had a transmission rear seal leaking where I saw pink with a little water which diluted it a little to make me think it was the light red transmission fluid. As it turned out,...

Best on the install.
Paint all of those gauges while they are out.
Re-panel the dash with new overlay.
Lest we forget the heated seats.
I know a source for the face of the speedometers to make them look brand new. US $10 each. Perfect fit. The fellow...Last edited by waterlogged882; 04-09-2024, 05:53 PM.

One has to buy year make specific. Been there as well. Had to return mine for a refund, then the fellow fessed up to his assumption that another similar year make would suffice. He made the specific plate for a 93 (for my needs). Fit like OJ's glove.

Look for a Chemistry themed web site and search for a Watch Glass.
I have used the slightly larger size glass (or plastic) for speedometers.

I will say this; on these older boats, you can bet on new stringers after 40+ years of natural wood decay. That said to make this point; for new stringers, one will have to strip the entire boat down to the bare hull, make a few additional decisions on how far to go with upgrading while the boat is...

A seven year old thread and the original poster has not been here since five years ago. I wouldn't wait up or leave a light on.
Best on the fix.

Keep it waxed often and the new gel will resist oxidation.

I get it... I will say this; $7K is still too much but that is your call.
If you pursue (which I think you mentioned you'll keep looking) make sure you are getting new stringers. Ask for photos or look under the rear center section of the floor to see new wood. I have seen all facets...

I am a hard sell on a boat. Especially the older 19 Skiers.
To your question..no..not in my opinion. Rare is nothing but a buzz word.
I will say this; if a 78 is still in original condition, it is due new stringers (past due). That within itself is a lot of work and money to...
