Does anyone know the difference in spec and or quality of the older 10" IB sub that were shipped with the 7.7 component speakers as compared to the M6 10" IB subs...?
-
Hi bcd, yes, if I could get the 12" in where the 10" is now I was just going to pull the trigger and get it done. That was the disappointment.
My amp choice was/is the MHD900/5 because it allowed me to run the 4 cockpit speakers at 100W each and 500W to the single M7 sub that...

Hey Sky, Helpful post. So in the other thread we were discussing tangential ideas for system set up...in this thread dnadrifter has a subset of exactly what I am doing...so we have shared some ideas as well. We both have the issue that the 12" sub does not fit where we would like to put it ...which...

I do think that is the direction I will go. I believe it is likely a good a HU and it is by far the easiest upgrade from the CMD4. If you wanted to sacrifice the LCD on the old remote and thus the streaming info on the LCD you can put an adapter on the DIN cable from the new M608 and drive the existing...

My chicken scratch isn't great, but here is a quick sketch of the basics to show you the why....

Thanks for the pointer bcd! looks like an interesting thread, I'll go through it...I am pretty bummed on this point because I thought I had my game plan and was looking forward to upgrading to then M7 where the 10" IB location is and going with a single 12....

dnadrifter, My plan is to upgrade the 10" to 12"...I would like to use the M7 JL 12"...however I am thinking it does not fit...at least not easily. You may have a similar space in your 06 X15 as I do in my 06 Star. The 10" has an OD of grille of 10.75 " but the 12" has...

I guess I can’t say for sure on the HU sound quality since I have no way of comparing them side by side. However, I have read some comments on threads here and on THT site that said there was a noticeable improvement in sound quality with the M608 over the CMD4 . I am hoping that is the case, but...

Hi drifter,
if you saw my other concurrent post I am leaning towards the MHD amps. That design may help with noise as well. I am going to go ahead and upgrade the HU, try to provide better input to amps, integrate the Bluetooth.
I’m also going to...

Hi Sky, here is what I am thinking. Objective is to upgrade quality of HU and get max amp with 2 new amps using existing power cabling.
M608 HU to replace CMD4. Easy swap, 4 zone control, likely upgrade to new wired remote and cable to support.
MHD600/4...

Sky, I am trying to think through biting the bullet and putting 3 amps in to replace the two...wondering if it is the right thing...I have a lot of speakers in the boat so not running bridged 200W to any in boat speaker vs. having 6 in boats all ~75W and 200W x2 to tower speakers is what I am pondering....

dnadrifter Sounds like we are in a similar hunt for best solution.
So are you currently using 2 channels running bow speakers and then 2 channels bridged for sub and then the remaining 4 channels bridged to run the 2 cockpit speakers?
I assume you have the component 770 speakers...

I agree. I had been thinking about swapping to a 12” seems like a good approach. Thx. Enjoyed the dialogue!

Thx Sky. Yes it is suspicious that the crimps where the cut wires are are different, (did not know they were automotive), but they match exactly with the pics in that link to the other 06 XStar. As weird as it is, it is likely more than a coincidence.
I liked your recommendation on schematic....

Ok, since the 16pin connector speaker harness vs. the amp speaker wire bundle was resolved in the parallel thread I brought the final options for new system back to this thread. Here seems like to be the most probable options. Would like to hear what you think.
Replace current Clarion CMD4...

Also, as an aside, the non-marine looking speaker wires in my pics match the other pics from the thread I copied the link to...not sure why MC did that, but those wires that run to the tower from the e2150 only go a few feet and then are crimped onto marine wires that are part of the pre-wired tower...

Thanks Sky. It is hard to say what got hacked by previous owner. I bought the boat from original owner in 08 and it is an 06...it had 50 hours on it.
It appears from threads around here that the 06's, especially XStar, were equipped with these same two amps...e6450 and e2150's. Most came...

Ok. Now after studying my own pictures I understand the 16 pin vs. amp speaker wires! Duh.
the speaker wires coming out of the 16 pin connector on HU terminate at the connector at the bundle and the amp speaker wire bundle picks up yellow, red, black and blue/white from the HU which are...

Hello Sky,
Thanks for taking the time to teach me some things here. I appreciate the help. The harness from the HU was a bit confusing to me due to how it was routed into a connector and then bundled into the black plastic flex tubing...attaching pic...its hard to tell where it goes from...

Also something pretty weird happened when I changed filter setting.
set up on e6450m amp before I changed anything:
RCA input split with Y splitters to input ch1-4. In sum mode for ch 5-6.
Outputs:
-Ch. 1 - 4, speaker outputs look like they drive all 6 in boats...
