Good question about the gaps. Don't remember exactly but definitely less than 1", even with the 522.
My approach would be to start by dropping an inch in pitch and stay with the same diameter and cup, then move some more of that weight up front if you need to. Hard to say for sure but...Leave a comment:

The 6.0 (with a stock cam) is making making its best torque at about 4000-5000 RPM with the peak normally around 4500-4800 RPM, so, that's the direction you need to go to get more pulling power. The cost is obviously wear and tear, fuel economy, and noise.
