  • For those who followed and offered advise : Thank you! The timing issue was solved with help of the forum, vaccum seems good after reinstalling the carb spacer and gaskets 22Hg at idle). The starter issue turned out to be a worn out relay (not the starter solenoid) but the old relay before the starter…...

  • Hello 88,
    Thanks for that! The starter is an ARCO 70200 not the original. The old starters had the bendix working with inertia to engage the flywheel but I believe in the ARCO one the engagement is based on the pinion being pushed by a lever that is part of the solenoid… I had changed the solenoid...

  • So, I put the old solenoid back into the starter today and managed to start the engine and do the timing with the above timing marks on the balancer.

    The timing was indeed way off... like 20° or so. So I losened the distributor bolt and turned the distributor.
