Thanks Sky. I read it and it helped me understand. I appreciated your coin and wave analogy. I am guessing this is why home theater applications have phase knobs on subwoofers so you can "match" or time the waves?

Only question, staying with the wave analogy, are the waves...

I would like to know also.

I also have the same question about the 7.7 component speakers also vs the M6 7.7s....

Yeah, this is definitely the preferred path. Its too bad it doesn't fit easily. It does seem like the Wetsounds 12" has a bit of a smaller template, but the specs I found online for the grill and opening aren't as comprehensive as JLs. I may still look into it a bit. With that said, it seems...

Thanks for the lesson. Looks like I need to read up more and better understand speaker and amp impedance and implications of wiring things different ways. Thanks....

Where would folks prefer the location of a second sub, assuming I can bring myself to cut a 10" hole in my boat. (the 3" hole I cut for my second remote was tough enough)

I think I prefer location B from an aesthetic standpoint. Is one better than the other from an audio quality/sonic...

So the M610IB is fine with the 2 ohm? I knew about the amp and it was fine given the specs, but JL only lists numbers for 4 ohm. I am still learning and acquiring all this stereo info. Wetsounds subs can be purchased as either 2 or 4 ohm, so I guess I figured it wasn't a good idea to run the JL subs...

Are you going with the M608. I was looking at head units last night. Would like to get a fusion, but then I am going to end up have either two useless wired remotes or two holes that look weird. From what I found on the web quickly, the old fusion wired remotes were close to the same hole size as...

Nominal impedance on the JLs are 4 ohms right? I guess your are doing fine though at 2 ohm or you wouldn’t have posted the above?

I think I misread the earlier post. Yeah, I would need to add two new amps if I go with two subs.

    Or maybe one M400/4 (200W x2)?...

Thanks for your thoughts Sky. I am likely getting another amp anyway, but your point about the 12" vs the 10" is well taken and was kind of my initial thinking before looking at price and then MLA mentioned two 10s.

Thanks, MLA. I was hoping you would offer advice at some point. I always appreciate reading your insight in these audio threads. I wasn't aware of infrasonic filters. Appreciate the heads up.

In looking at 12" subs, they are pretty expensive compared to 10"s. If I simply add a...

Thanks. Is your understanding the head unit can make a difference, even if just using bluetooth from the external component. That JL BT component is really good iMO....not a huge difference in that vs CD quality to my ears....

  • Everything sounds good, better than it did with the one small amp that came stock. The cockpit speakers sound better than the bow, but to be honest I haven't done extensive testing. I have also always felt that my speakers kind of had a bit of background noise. My recent search came from being in...

    Looking for Audio Upgrade Advice

Thinking about possible upgrade to my existing system on my 2006 X15 at the end of the season and would like to solicit opinions and advice. I would like to understand what might make the biggest difference in sound quality in the boat… (not behind it)

It isn’t that it sounds bad, but...

  • I am going through a similar exercise on how to upgrade my existing 2006 X15. You have 4 more speakers....2 more in cabin and 2 towers. I have an existing M800/8 and am looking to add a mono block for the sub and run the existing 4 speakers in 4 x 200W using my existing M800/8. Right now it is driving...

  • From the lack of responses and my own research it doesn't seem that there is a great way to re-use the original amplifier. I will be looking into options of possibly purchasing a new 2nd amp for the system.

    2006 X15, Utilize Original e4300 amp?

Current setup is stock in cabin speakers. 2 pairs JL 7.7 speaker and separate tweeter (M770 component I think) and 1 stock sub. Replaced the original M4300 amp with a JL M800 a couple years ago.

    Bow Speakers = 2 x75W
    Cockpit Speakers = 2 x 200W (bridged)
    Sub = 1 x 200W (bridged)...
