WHAT? You have the orange wire too? I had a whole thread on that. What is the orange wire for? I was going to trace it last weekend but never had time.

Great thread. I've been updating my engine to all new and more modern parts for the past year. My no spark issue was a fun one. I had a purple wire problem behind the dash. Where a joint had been used the wire had broken out of one end. Fires right up now....

I looked at that carb but it had flat fuel line intake and I would have to adjust my fuel line that was for a 4160. Decided to go with a 4160 again for that reason....

I've got a homework assignment for now. I'm only at the cabin on the weekends so I'll dig into it this weekend while I (hopefully) install the new carb I ordered from SkiDim if it gets here.

This is NOT the 10 gauge orange wire on the alternator. This is a 14 gauge wire just like the purple wire. I guess I need to pull off all that plastic wrap and figure it out....

I already had EI so basically it went to the same terminal of the resistor and then from there to both the coil and the choke. Also the aforementioned weird orange wire to wherever. So the one side of the resistor had a lot of traffic that I wanted to clear....

That's the mystery that I have not had time to investigate. It goes into some snakeskin that goes all over the place. Was hoping someone would know before I had to go creeping all around that thing.
Since the purple wire comes from the alternator to the ballast resistor why can't I just...

Wiring Question - 89 Prostar w/351
Changed out coil and distributor and thought I had all the wiring squared away. Moving away from needing a ballast resistor. Couple of questions, can I take the purple wire that went from the resistor to the choke and run it straight from the alternator? Does anyone know what the orange wire that was...
