That socket looks great! I wonder if it’s that 7/16” size. I’ll write the seller and ask....

It’s amazing they made the head for those bolts so small. I’ll try to find that socket you were referring to because without it a 7/16” wrench just seems too small.
Wow those are some nasty looking mounts. Looks like quite a job. I hope these move easily.
I do have...

Excellent thank you!
Currently working in freeing the motor mounts. Looks like I’ll need to source and 1-1/8” wrench for the rear jam nuts. I assume loosen jam nuts and turn bolts with a smaller wrench to adjust, correct?

I apologize for the length of time it's taking me to fully understand the way the rudder port is built but thanks to your explanation I think I am starting to understand.
So what you're saying is I can reuse the snap ring, the seals I can find at an auto parts store, no need for o rings,...

That’s good to hear the rudder isn’t terrible. I’ve heard there are rudders with prop shaft packing but this isn’t one of those correct? It does have a nut on top with two set screws. That’s not there to allow a slow leak or anything like the packing, correct?
I was on the...

I thought the hose was a pretty neat idea too. I don't think it was fully resting on the log but it definitely could've been lower than it should have been. The PO installed another transmission and failed to do a proper alignment which caused me to dive deeper and find out the strut bearings were worn....Last edited by sticknrudder; 01-26-2023, 10:22 PM.

Sounds good, I will do a dry fit for sure. I was going to try it today but ended up having to focus on another project. Hoping to get back to it tomorrow....

Here you go: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284669682544
There are a number of different sellers on eBay with them. I was very impressed with the quality. Worked like a charm....

That is really good news because I think that will allow me to align it without having to put the engine lower which can’t really be done. I’m hopeful now this will work without having to shim the strut or anything. Thanks!...

Here's the video I was referencing. Before he puts the piece of water hose in, the shaft appears to be resting on the bottom of the shaft log.

Now my attention has shifted back to the alignment issue. I found that trying to move the prop shaft from the propeller end results in no movement. Nice and tight. While on the coupler end, there is movement. It naturally wants to sit lower in the shaft log. When I lift up on it up a little it is nice...

Got them installed. Installation went surprisingly well. I had a hard time finding a bolt long enough so I ended up with a bolt hook from a local farm store. Worked great. Propshaft is nice and tight in the strut now, with no movement or noise.

Very glad to hear it looks ok. I did use a 9” long 3/16” drift pin but I thought I had to cut them all the way through first. I went with the original rubber/brass type. I have them in the freezer now. I’m planning on putting them in tomorrow....

I am sorry to say I’m not proud of these pictures…I’m afraid I made a pretty big mistake in sawing the old bushings out. I found it harder than expected using the sawzall under there. Dan Tanis’ video made it look much easier. When I was cutting out the front bushing, I didn’t realize the...

Excellent. Thank you.
I am currently trying to remove the rudder. I have the tiller arm removed but rudder won’t drop…looks like there’s a 1” long key in the rudder shaft that I’m guessing has to come out first?...Last edited by sticknrudder; 01-23-2023, 05:58 PM.

Got it! Finally, after the 4th or 5th attempt, I had tension on it from the homemade puller and gave it one whack with a rubber mallet and it broke free. Only issue is I used the nut at one point backed part way off. Ultimately I got it off using a socket instead. I am wondering if I somehow damaged...

I tried pressing the coupler off with a socket in between the coupler and the transmission flange and have been unsuccessful so far. This was my set up:
I got the bolts tightened as tight as I could with a 3/8" socket and wrench. No movement. Any ideas? Should I try heat?...

I haven't worked on the boat much this week because I was waiting for some tools and helping my parents with an electrical/plumbing project.
I purchased a stubby 1-1/8" impact socket from Capri tools on Amazon for about $10. I know I could've just cut a socket in half and welded a...
