Official: "Its College Football Season" Thread
Alright folks, I got my MSU tickets in the mail yesterday which makes me look forward to my second favorite past time of watching scores of games pumped directly into my favorite football spot. I know the following teams are represented but did I miss anyone that I can rib throughout the season?:

MSU, IU, Iowa, LSU, Georgia, Purdue, 'Bama, Minnesota?

bcampbe7 08-31-2004 09:39 AM

University of Tennessee (UT)! :)

Footin 08-31-2004 09:40 AM

Go Buckeyes!!!!!!!

OhioProstar 08-31-2004 09:43 AM

Footin, Good to see someone else that can hate the scUM with me.

Footin 08-31-2004 09:45 AM

I bleed scarlett and grey and I hate that team "up north".

MSU? You need to take the Ohio out of your OhioProstar.
There is only one Big Ten team that needs to be talk of, and that is The Ohio State Buckeyes! In my northern Ohio location I'm around 44 miles from Ann Arbor, and I'm starting to smell again the stink that is drifting down from the worlds largest ash tray, a.k.a. the Big House to the hillbillys. I will not worry about East Lansing until game week, and the week they play the U of Meatchickens.

Footin 08-31-2004 09:55 AM

Givem hell 86.

86Craft, Glad to see we dislike the same team with similar intensity. You must be around Sylvania. As my family was transplanted from Michigan early on, I maintained my Green blood even as many Bucks that tried to brain wash me. Thank goodness for all my relatives being MSU grads or I would have never made it.

BTW I did my undergrad work at Miami of Ohio, but couldn't shake my MSU roots. Either way I enjoy the fact that I have had to pull for a team that is average most years and occasionally gets a big upset like this one:

bcampbe7 08-31-2004 11:16 AM

Which one is you???

86Craft 08-31-2004 11:17 AM

November 7 1998. The day that will live in infamy.
#1 ranked and not-beaten Ohio State Buckeyes 24 - Michigan State Spartans - 28.
I have the newspaper clipping of that same picture hanging in my office to remind myself that to never take anybody lightly again!
Bucks was winning that game 24 -7 in the third quarter. Now I'm not hungry for lunch even!

OhioProstar 08-31-2004 11:28 AM

Sorry 86, I had to get my swipe in. I do pull for OSU when they aren't playing my boys.

Here's to College Sports!!! :friday:

bradamerry 08-31-2004 01:35 PM

I wonder if I will have to wait another 45 years for LSU to win another National Title?? Go Tigers!

OhioProstar 08-31-2004 01:59 PM

I would think that they will be in the running again this year. Saban is a recruiting machine.

NC State. Could be a long year now that Philip Rivers has graduated to the NFL.

bradamerry 08-31-2004 03:25 PM

I'm not real sure about the QB, you need a good one to win it all!

GO Tennessee Tech University!
Wait, does anyone care about a small engineering school with second tier sports

bradamerry 08-31-2004 04:06 PM

Sure, isn't that what Texas A&M is?? A school with second rate sports!

Smitty 08-31-2004 05:38 PM

It's the most wonderful time of the year. I love the smell of turf in the morning. As a former IU player I am required to chime in on this football talk. Now before we start bashing the Hoosiers, just let me tell you that I am a fan of all college sports. However, my opinions as to some programs will come as no surprise to many. I can say with some dignity that we won our share of games when I played, a few bowls, but no National Championship. I look forward to the chat in the upcoming weeks. My pre-season prediction has Iowa winning the Big-10 and Georgia for the National Championship. Anyone else like to make a prediction other than your alma-mater? Go IU!

Smitty; my wife is IU grad and loves IU sports. But lately it seems to be down a bit except for their soccer and now with Yeagley gone big pressure on the new coach, but I hear he will do well. Did you play with Andre Hall? Our son's were on the same soccer team for awhile.

OhioProstar 09-01-2004 09:14 AM

Looking at the field I would think that USC has a pretty good chance to repeat. They didn't look great last week, but the PAC 10 is going to be down this year although Cal might surprise some people. Big Ten, I would have to go with a Sleeper in Purdue.

MarkP 09-01-2004 09:46 AM

Ok, well I got nothing for this thread so, um, GO TEAM :headbang:

Being a UT grad I will have to ask you to remove those obscenities! J/K :)
My boss is an Auburn grad. We use a software package that alerts us when something is down within our network. It sends an email and plays a sound. The sound I chose is Auburns fight song, since it represents something down. He didn't find it funny, but I haven't changed it yet... :D

It's all in good fun,

P.S. Love the pics FarmerTed! :toast:

Smitty 09-01-2004 11:36 AM

IU sports
Andre Hall is not a familiar name, but it is possible that I have played with him. I played from '90 to '94. As for athletics, the program is in limbo right now. They are actively seeking a new athletics director and have started a $75 million capital campaign for the athletic program that would include facility upgrades for football, basketball, and administration. The past 8 years have been painfull to watch the struggles over power in athletics. Some of you may of heard of Miles Brand. He was IU's former president and now head of the NCAA. If he had his way, the athletic department would be dissolved and the university would run the programs. (Just like Vanderbilt). Nobody wants the job at IU so the athletic program is running itself right now. Fortunetly our new school president is a big football fan and is spending a lot of time trying to rebuilding the program.

Enough talk, let's play some football!!!!

Ron Grover 09-01-2004 01:04 PM

Let's get out priorities straight. Saturdays in the early fall is skiing time. Occasional wetsuit but all the lake lice have been winterized and water is calm all the way into the afternoon.

Basketball is the sport.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk.....Go KU

Leroy 09-01-2004 02:46 PM

Smitty, he may have been just before you. I remember >10 years ago it was so much fun to watch Bobby Knight, he did some amazing things with kids that should not have gone where they did.

All I know is Saturday when I get off Lake Cumberland's smooth water, I am going to see that my Spartoonies smoked Rutgers on the way to a decent season.

bcampbe7 09-01-2004 04:23 PM

They may have a good season going till Oct 2nd. Then they will have to travel to Iowa City to play the Hawks!
Interestingly enough, that is the same day that UT will beat Auburn.

OhioProstar 09-01-2004 04:28 PM

We got them last year, but you're right they will most likely roll at home.

Up on Rocky Top...Rocky Top Tennessee. My best friend lives down in Cleveland, TN and drives me crazy with the Vols.

bradamerry 09-01-2004 05:18 PM

What's the news on Oregon State's ball team, they play LSU in Tiger Statium Saturday!

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 06:46 PM.
