I installed the vents with poles. Brought the cover to my local upholstery guy and had him sew a reinforcing patch to the underside of each vent hole. Cost was $15.00.

Guy on our lake dumped 40 loads on the ice (not very stealthy). When ice melted he had a sand bottom. DNR found out and made him remove it all. Ill-advised, very expensive project.

I had the same problem. Same engine. Bought the filter wrench that fits on the bottom of the filter and uses a 3/8s inch ratchet to turn it. Works great.
