If you use a solution (windex, soap or commercially available type) when applying decals, it allows you the ability to adjust them so they are straight. Your comment about operating the boat in reverse indicates an impeller issue. The prop will push water towards the raw water intake under the boat in reverse.

All this above is correct! I "assume" you have the Hurth transmission. There was a Service Bulletin issued back in the days that would suggest you change the fluid from Dexron to engine oil. I believe it was 15w-40, but search for it to be sure.
