    Throttle Won't Hold Speed

I have a 1995 Prostar 205 that we have been enjoying keeping on the water in its older years (not to mention I'm pretty darn new to DD boats). While pulling a skier, I find that if I don't keep slight pressure on the throttle, it slowly works it way "slower."

    Is there a way...

Thanks Jack....I'll have to tear the gauges apart and see what is in there. Makes sense to have a big drop across everything.

    Voltage Gauge

Greetings - I'm having fun bringing our new-to-us 1995 Prostar 205 back to life.

Have an question on the voltage gauge - Can't say I remember if it worked properly before, but after an experiment in reversing the battery leads and frying a few wires and the alternator (btw, I highly recommend...

Sorry - got in a hurry. The API CJ-4 rating is for diesel engines. Any idea why that is being called out for a gas engine?

    Oil Change

Anything special needed for a 1995 Indmar 5.7 oil change?

Looking at the Indmar website, it looks like 15W-40 with API CJ-4 rating.

What about the filter? Anything special needed there?

    Squeal at Startup

Greetings - a few quick (and hopefully simple) questions on my 1995 prostar 205, 5.7 Indmar.

For winter maintenance, I changed the water pump impeller and through some unfortunate events (read did something stupid) had to also replace the alternator.

    I've only had it started...

    Problem solved.....

EMC is fully functional. After hours of research and tracing wires, I found that the ignition wasn't sending power to the relay - no spark, no fuel. Tracing it back to find the problem it became crystal clear that the kill switch was open because I pulled the lanyard...

Alright - work load finally allowed me to get the new alternator swapped. Good news - no more engine smoking. Gauges come to life and the engine cranks.

Buuuuuut....no spark. I've used an in-line spark tester and since I didn't trust that, pulled a plug, grounded to the manifold and...

Thanks for the insight guys. Frank - I ordered the new alternator from DB before I saw your post, I think I'll just let this go. I did pull my old one apart and the wires had burned off the rectifier - not to mention years of gunk inside it; so all in all a new one may not be a bad idea. Any insight...

Thanks Waterlogged. I put a call into DB today, but they weren't able to call me back.

Fingers crossed the breaker saved the day on the rest of the electronics.

I'll have to remember that whole red = "+" / black = "-" thing.....filed it away right after...
