Wow, two different threads, and a moderator can't read them or figure it out, especially on post #1 of the thread!
Kinda makes ya wonder where the deleted threads like the Neverending Threadjack thread went and who really deleted them and who got blamed for them.
If it gets where it won't idle right and you get large amounts of black smoke out of the exhaust, it's the power valve that needs replacing. It has a hole in it and is flooding the engine.
I have searched and can't find anything to resemble an owners manual/parts drawing/parts list for a Reliable actuator like the UFP pdf, nor do I remember anyone ever posting a pic or a link to one here on TT. Good luck and let us know what you find and please give us a link or post something if you...
I'm not sure exactly which actuator you have, but a dealer should have a way to get a owners manual. You can look at this UFP (Unique Functional Products) maintenance pdf file, http://www.ufpnet.com/Portals/0/PDFs...aintenance.pdf and see it your is similar, I don't know...

It doesn't make any difference how much gas is in the tank when you replace the sending unit, just as long as the sending unit is calibrated (Set/Adjusted) for the tank it's going into. If the old repaired one still won't operate properly, replace it with a new one for it to read correctly throughout...

Maybe yours was the yellow and gold metalflake MC we saw at the park exit as we left Cypress Gardens after the ski show in 1983. That boat was the first MC that ever caught my eye and made my heart race, thinking at that time I would probably never be able to own one, but figured I could dream anyw...
FYI, the Limited Edition 20th Anniversary Platinum ProStar was produced during the 1988 year model, not 1987. The last two numbers in your HIN should be 88, correct?
