markismm... beautiful boat. i hope to get this one looking that nice someday, but it will probably have different interior design.

as for the fuel pump, i picked it up at a local motor parts store, along with the pump cover plate, hoses, filter, and regulator. the place is pretty awesome. they have a large variaty of products on hand along with a fair amount of marine rated products.

elctric pump was putting out 8 psi, a motorhead buddy told me to put a regulator on it and keep it at about 5.5 psi. the engine ran the same at 8 or 5. even started playing with the regulator last weekend and noticed at about 3.5 psi the engine seemed to be "starving" but never died on me...Last edited by badgerjfr; 09-04-2012, 04:01 PM.

need more speed
hey all,
i've been working on a 1984 stars and stripes, after 3 months finally got the thing to run and go. now my problem has changed
the boat seems to dog out a little on take off and max rpm i can achieve is around 3300 at around 34 mph. im not 100% sure, but i think...

finally... it ran. i actually got it off the trailor and took it for a little cruise. what finally did the trick, the firing order was off, or possibly not makeing a good connection. i ripped all the plug wires off, laid them out, and visually inspacted each one before putting them back on the engine....

Also i will be double checking the firing order and checking the voltage at the coil while i wait for the pump to arrive. and CJ, i live over in the Trempealeau area just north of LaCrosse. thanks again everyone.

thanks for the site, I'll be sure to check it out.
UPDATE: i started goimg through the fuel lines again. starting at the tank and working my way to the carb. when i got to the fuel pump, i removed it and took it apart. one of the two valves inside the pump was literally floating around....

thanks guys. ill start with this. i dont think its the transmission, but i will check the fluid levels just to be safe. the prop looks almost new and all fins look original so i dont think its ever hit anything and when it is in gear not under good power the drive rod doesnt seem to have a wobble or...Last edited by badgerjfr; 08-15-2012, 02:49 PM.

hello all,
im a new member and recently bought a 1984 ss knowing it needed a lot of work. challange accepted. after working on this thing for a couple months im at a loss. fisrt ill tell you what i know has been done to the boat then ill tell you my problem.
