replied to DIY Winter Ice Rinks
Ug, how hard can it be to make ice in Minnesota they say? Well, darn hard! I've done 5 backyard rinks and now one on our lake. This year I decided to skip the whole thing because it is a PITA and I don't skate. I got tired of being the nice guy so I gave it up. But down on our lake there is a guy...

  • Yep I drop it off at my local MC dealer in the fall and they do their thing no matter how many hours are on it. Gotta keep those wrench monkeys earning their paychecks and it is only money. Let's just say I am doing more than my part to stimulate the economy. ...

  • 9! Yep you read right, 9. Family was super busy with oldest kid at college because she won a research grant and had to stay there to do research. Youngest kid got a boyfriend and I did take him and some of his buddies out twice. I did the remaining hours pulling for our local water ski show....

Crooks like this one never learn and they keep going until someone puts a stop to them. Saw one guy a while back that took his own life with a shotgun but none of the crime scene matched what should have been present (think position/kickback of a shotgun). Police investigating knew the guy's record...

replied to Rest in Peace Baby
In fire training at work they teach us to always cut the electrical power first thing if we suspect a fire that might be electrical in nature. So I keep a set of heavy duty wire cutters (along with a few other standard tools) right next to my battery just in case. Snip to the negative, snip to the...

    replied to putting Boat away
I am on the water from when the ice cracks enough for me to push it out of the way and I stop when the lake skims over with ice. As a kitesurfer I am out on the water only when there is wind and hands down a drysuit is the go too choice. Even when I take off my thick wetsuit the wind chills me off...

replied to Best Boat for 100k(ish)
When I bought my house my dad was blown away at the time (1993, ~$150K). If he saw what I paid for our "cabin" he would have had a heart attack. If he knew what I paid for my boat he would have given me a big dope slap. He said "never buy an asset that depreciates, eats, or uses gas...

Wow, just wow growing up with decent ski boats back in the 1960s and 1970s I would never imagine reading a person say what would be the best boat for $100K-ish. Shocking.

  • Every year where I work we get fire extinguisher training and the one thing it has taught me these 28+ years I have been taking it is that fire extinguishers do not last long. And having been around a lot of fires I can say in a real world situation they last just about 5 seconds less than they need...

replied to Neck brace for wakeboarding?
I never thought about it for wakeboarding but I have seen some of the "older gentlemen" on our lake wearing them when barefooting. They take some nasty spills and they say it helps.

replied to Wakesurf board with straps?
Most people put the hooks facing inwards and so they mount them at the furthest points bow and stern of the board. But I can see how you have it set up will work too.

My one caution is not carry the boards by the hooks, hand onto the board when transporting. There is just a plastic...

replied to Boat lift guide poles
I just made some mid rail guide posts for my shorestation lift. I did not want any chance of kiddos bumping into anything but vertical posts.

I have an I-bean running front to back along each side I could attach to so I went over to my local metal and aluminum supply place and got some...

replied to Malibu Hit With Mega-Verdict
That was what I was saying. Do no review and things get bad real quick, but do even a poor job and things are at least tipped a little in the company's favor. I have seen some really, really bad products from our competitors that have literally harmed people but they go off the hook somehow because...

replied to Malibu Hit With Mega-Verdict
That is where Malibu failed. It is not a good idea to build a bad product but it happens all the time. What is needed with every product, and I do mean every product, is that someone in the design group should stop and think "what can go wrong" and document it. Yes they can miss something...
