He said the grooves. I was assuming that he had a grooved cover like the one in the attached picture. The only way oil could get there would be PCV or breather.
If it is not a cover like the one attached, I totally agree it is most likely the valve cover....

If it is in the ridge of the valve cover then it is probably coming from the crankcase ventilation hose and bushing. If it is the original engine then it almost 30 years old and probably well worn. You may be getting a little bit of combustion blow-by and that is pressurizing the crankcase. The bushings...

Is it fresh water cooled (anti-freeze), or raw water cooled (directly from lake). If raw water cooled you will want to make sure the set has Marine head gaskets to minimize corrosion. Otherwise any quality head gaskets should be fine. You also want to make sure your kit has brass freeze plugs.

The oil cooler we installed was just like the transmission oil cooler. In line with the raw water intake. There is an adapter plate for the 5.7" that mounts between the engine block and the oil filter. Simple install....

I assume you only have low oil pressure when the engine is warmed up. My friend had an '87 stars and stripes with a 351W. Low pressure at idle when the engine was hot drove him crazy. We installed and engine oil cooler and the problem was gone forever. It did not come from the factory with one....
