    Is a 2014 X46 a good wake surf boat?

I have a Malibu VLX and it puts up a killer wave but I have to load it down hard. I like the interior of the X46. If I can get one into the 70s I might be game. Does anyone surf behind one? Are they nice?

    They are nice.
You need a lot of ballast to get a good Surf Wave.
Sub $80k is a good value for an X46.they were not popular and dropped in price quickly

Check hours. , ballast for cracks/leaks , alignment of center windshield.

I would by one again in the low $70s but not much more.

thanks for the insight. What's a good Mastercraft surf boat? Is that NXT22 any good?

Any of the current lineup will surf well. NXT is not their "best" surf boat out of the box but you can make it surf well.

X46 surfs pretty awesome once you add about 800lbs on top of stock ballast in rear, lead and or upsized ballast sacs.

My 08 VLX runs a lot of weight. I run 1800 in the rear, 400 in the locker and 600 on the nose. On top of stock ballast.

I think everyone's idea of "good" might be different. I have owned a X46 since 2014 and love it for surfing. I find that having only 2/3 people in the boat you need to add extra weight yes...but when i have 2 families which include 5 teenagers in the boat then i don't need any extra weight as i just get them to sit in different spots. So it all depends on your situation.

As for the interior...we love it as it is roomy for us to go out and spend hours surfing with 10 or more people on the boat and not tripping all over each other.

Loved my X46. I kept 250-300# of lead in the very back to help with surf wave.

I cannot say enough good about the X46 and made sure I ordered one before they stopped production in 2019. The exterior aesthetics (low profile) and interior room are unsurpassed.

While we only surf when either the water is too rough to wakeboard or everyone is wore out from wakeboarding the boat puts out a great surf wave. We don't add any additional weight other than the four or five people on board. Our friends with a Tige' (Z24?) and a Nautique G23 all prefer to be behind our boat when either wakeboarding or surfing so to me that says something about how well the boat sets up. They have even pushed to buy our boat to replace theirs.

I am unsure of any hull or ballast differences between the years. That may make a difference. Ours is a 2019.

I would agree with WakePowell. We have used our 46 for 3 summers. Prior to this boat we had X10, X25, and X20. The styling of this boat is proportionate compared to the new barges. The interior layout is very functional. The stock surf wake works perfect. With only a driver on board we carry 300# of lead and I can surf until my legs can't take it anymore. To me this is a perfect crossover boat that surfs better and better with the more passengers you have. There is nothing in the new Mastercraft lineup that has made me want to trade......yet!

We love our 16-46, its been unreal with the 7.4 in it. Surfs better than our 55 and we had that dialed in. We do add 700lb fatty in the back, and load her up with people, huge crisp wave. I love the lay out of the boat, open and everyone can see everything onboard and outside the boat. Its been a wonderful boar to own, and it gets so many looks with the flake. I'm not a huge fan of the screens the newer models have, looks too spaceship for me. I like dials, nobs, and the smaller screen is perfect. Everyone I talk to that owns their 46, loves them, we are in that boat!!!

Out of the box, it kinda sucks. Big boat, needs more weight.

We run that much weight in my buddy’s 09 VLX, and it’s about half that size. Lol

You had a pic from the 50th reunion maybe with a nice wave from your X30. That was one of the best I've seen. Working hard to get that from the budget boat. Getting there.
