    Wake surfing behind prostar 190

I’m currently in the process of buying my first boat, it’s a 1987 prostar 190. I’d like to surf behind it if possible. It comes with a surfgate, was curious if I should get fat sacks and what sizes? Also any tips for speeds and anything else would be great. I’d also need to get a board so suggestions on that would be great as well. I’m 5’10 weigh 160, I’m decent at wake surfing but don’t need anything crazy. Thanks

can you....yes. Will it be amazingly great.....no. IMHO look for a sac that can replace the rear seat. Also the surfgate will help a lot. Boards are all dependent on the person riding them so i'm going to pass on that one.

for reference i have an 89 and a 92 ps 190 and primarily slalom(injured currently) and have surfed behind both. the 92 is much more difficult it just does not want to throw a wake however the 89 isn't to bad at those speeds and you should be able to.

I am the same height and weight as you. With that boat you will want a larger board covering good surface area. That will make it "easier" to feel like you are surfing at least.

I agree with h_2_o on the bags that you will want to replace the back seat with a bag and you will probably need one on each side of the dog house as well.

We surfed behind our DD ski boats for many many years until they came out with larger boats. Back in the day (70's and 80's) we found that the best portable ballast were the "beached whales" waiting around for a ride.

Lure them into the boat with Cheetos and Hersey bars?

forgot to mention one thing if you do go this route (and i only know this because my nephew likes surfing) be careful when someone falls. With the older 190's with that much weight in the back do not pull up on the throttle quickly or turn right away. do it very very slowly or else you will find much much more water in the boat. Also find yourself some removable brackets for the rear platform and take that bad boy off as well when surfing.

Save all the money and time wasting on ballast or wake shapers and buy a hydrofoil surfer

Any suggestions on a good starter hydrofoil board? I don’t know much about it have just seen some videos. I take it you don’t need much wake to pull you?

Don't think us good folks have asked this but is there a specific reason you are going with an 87 Prostar and not looking at something could potential have a better wave?

ProStar of that era is quite surfable, the new ProStar even better. Pop out the rear seat, drop in a 750 lb fat sack and add a 175-200 lb tube shaped sack alongside the engine box on the surf side. Full tank of gas and a wake shaper help also. If you only add rear weight you will have a steep wake and you are riding right off the swim platform. Some center weight by the engine will help lengthen the "sweet spot" of the wave. Try 10.0 -10.5 mph for speed.

Pick a good volume board like a Inland Surfer Blue Lake and you should be fine at your weight. When I was 250 lbs I could ride our ProStar rope less with an Inland Surfer Red Woody even with a 5-8 yr old passenger at the same time.
