Best drone?

We have a holiday house on a lake that's also just a km or so to the ocean. Are there any drones on the market that are able to fly in windy conditions, over variable terrain, for a decent distance and provide real time images? I'd love one to use for following the boat while towing as well as film surfing and the cream would be if it could fly to the beach nearby and check out the surf. Am I dreaming? I know the U.S. military could do all of the above but can't see them being too keen to help out.

Thoughts?

Personally I think it's a horrible idea, that is unless you want to annoy everyone else around you. Drones are loud (yes, I know, so are boats), but also intrude on other peoples privacy. You're just going to find you've managed to anger lots of people. I know I don't want one flitting around while I'm out relaxing and trying to enjoy myself.

Not an issue where our place is. Beach is deserted and lake is low level use.

Saw one on YouTube with machine guns on it. It was pretty loud.

DJI did a demo at my company. I was pretty impressed with the Phantom 2 Vision+, Phantom 3 and especially the Inspire ($$$). I've been shopping these for a little while and also think 3DR makes some great products (Iris & Solo).

Repost:

Here are the current choices and pros cons i personally think are worth looking at, and i do a lot of drone flying:

DJI Inspire 1 Pro - $4500+

Pros:
Advanced system
DJI support / firmware updates
iOS / Android app with amazing camera controls
Fast with no props in video
Stable in winds
4k / [email protected] with built in 3 axis stabilized camera
Lightbridge 2+ mile range (give or take your conditions)
Interchangable cameras
NEW X5 Camera
Can use 4/3 MFT lens in the 110 - 140gram range
If u dont know the difference on the sensor size vs pixel size then i cant help you and this drone isnt for you

Cons:
$$$
Closed-ish source but the SDK is out
DJI =)
Camera is made by dji so will need to wait on their releases for new cameras
DJI Inspire 1 - $2800 - $3500

Pros:
Advanced system
DJI support / firmware updates
iOS / Android app with amazing camera controls
Fast with no props in video
Stable in winds
4k / [email protected] with built in 3 axis stabilized camera
Lightbridge 2+ mile range (give or take your conditions)
Interchangable cameras

Cons:
$$$

Phantom 3 Pro $1399

Pros:
DJI support / firmware updates
iOS / Android app with amazing camera controls
Fast with no props in video
Stable in winds
4k / [email protected] with built in 3 axis stabilized camera
Cheaper than Inspire with same stuff
Lightbridge 2+ mile range (give or take your conditions)
awesome ios app like inspire 1
3 axis gimbal

Cons:
DJI =)
Looks like a toy
Props in video when moving fast fwd
Non interchangable camera

Phantom 3 Advanced - $999

Pros:
DJI support / firmware updates
iOS / Android app with amazing camera controls
Fast with no props in video
Stable in winds
[email protected] with built in 3 axis stabilized camera
Cheaper than Inspire with same stuff
Lightbridge 2+ mile range (give or take your conditions)
awesome ios app like inspire 1
3 axis gimbal

Cons:
no 4k
DJI =)

Non interchangable camera

Phantom 3 Standard - $799

Pros:
DJI support / firmware updates
iOS / Android app with amazing camera controls
Fast with no props in video
Stable in winds
[email protected] with built in 3 axis stabilized camera
Cheaper than Inspire
awesome ios app like inspire 1
3 axis gimbal

Cons:
no 4k
DJI =)
Looks like a toy
Props in video when moving fast fwd
Non interchangable camera
no lightbridge so range isnt as good

3DR Robotics Solo $999 + $399 gimbal + GoPro $299 - $499

Pros
It is black
Promise of open source and swap able bays for expansions
Ground control and mission planner have been out for a while
Orbit and Cable Cam
Fast (but props show)

Cons
Gimbal has just come out, and personally it is not impressing anyone
You are almost at Inspire 1 price if your dont already own a GoPro
App is no where near as clean as the Pilot app for the DJI line
Shows props in videos if moving fast fwd flight

Personally it depends on what you want to film.
Solo is 3dr 2nd quad in the consumer oriented market and 1st gimbal.
Phantom 3 is based of a proven frame and dji has been making gimbals since day 1

If you have any other questions ask away

If you have the money....the DJI Inspire....it's INCREDIBLE! Plus, if you want to take it on the boat, the home feature will move with the controller. Now, the drone isn't waterproof, so you still have to be weary of that.
