Did you ever get your vertical board rack question answered?
I have them installed on an ‘18 xstar w/ zft4. They weren’t designed for this kind of installation but so far they have worked out for holding surf boards which is what I needed them for:

Note that I had to slightly mod my brackets by taking down the corner of one (blacked out on one pic w/ marker) in order to gain enough clearance for the zft4 standard board racks.
