I would also add until the more recent generation of Malibu’s the preference from advanced wakeboarders was actually to not use the wedge at all. Power wedge 3 has really improved upon that though.
As far as adjustability, it is nice to be able to peak the wake up or mellow it out on the fly. It does not however make the wake any larger - it’s only a shaping device.

    Fuel consumption absolutely suffers.

I thought the wedge was supposed to act as additional ballast. Is that not the case?

Wedge was severely lacking adjustability until power wedge 3.

Still no auto launch feature on the wedge either. Not even for 2020.

You have to click lift, plane out, then adjust the wedge to where you want it.

They only hang like an inch or so below the prop. Plus, you don’t need a stump finder. Your past boat found them. Lol

A guy I coach with BU burns like 13 gal/hr @ over 4k rpms (???) surfing, while my MC with the GDI motor burns 4 gal/hr surfing at 3,200 rpms.

When I have my 05 VLX the wedge helped create a great wake but I broken it twice. After moving to a MC i never have to worry about that.

It’s just asking for someone to rip a transom off

I have a couple things to say...

The wedge is a good idea, it just wasn’t executed very well imo. My buddy used to have a BU with the wedge (I convinced him to get a X24) and it threw out a great wave- the fuel consumption though was out of this world.

We had our boats down in Powell, and my “old” X30 hands down was way more fuel efficient. I surf at about 3,300 rpm vs. the BU at like 4K+

Also- didn’t MC experiment with a wedge back in 06 or 07? I recall it being called the MC aero wedge or something. Obviously it never caught on.

Wedge sucks. High gas milage, engine noise. Drivability is terrible

I do not need a better wave or another boat anchor.

Didn't chuck hook his on a stump a year or so after they had it retrofitted to their malibu?

I owned a power wedge equipped Bu in the past, and I drive one regularly. I stand by my statements.

There is good reason that no other boat manufacturer has copied the wedge.

We are happy you like it, but I think most other wakeboat owners are happier with the benefits of a center plate.

If you want a wedge, get a Bu?!?

Malibu style wedge on a MC

I swore off power wedgies many years ago in summer camp. Too painful.

But if you like it that’s all that matters.
