Steering cable and helm with tilt

I have a 1993 PS 190 S&S

I have some slop in my steering, and my helm seems to have some movement in it as well. I tried to get all of these parts from Ski Dim but they only have the cable and said none of the rest can be purchased anymore.

What are you guys using?

Thanks

'93 Steering System

Teleflex or Seastar. You might even want to convert to rack and pinion while you are at it.

Best I recall, the rack/pinion helm takes up all of the space for the single DIM head unit. Can't have both but there are other options for tunes as such.

So your choices are fix your issue with rack or a rotary system or do nothing. The rack is what all the OEMs went to. If it were me I wouldn't want to live with sloppy steering so I would convert to a new steering system and would pick the one that the OEMs went to. What you'll get is a good steering system again. I'd go back to DIM to see what they'd recommend. I'm sure someone on here has done a conversion at one time or another as well.

As to the stereo..... I'd probably look to moving to a media player. Depending on the amount of room left I would either install one of the short depth car audio media players or fab a blank plate and mount one of the Bluteooth units from JL or Exile. The down side on the later is that you'd also need an amp. The car versions of these are about $70, the marine versions can be had for about $130.

There are several threads on here that address this very issue for the 93 model in particular.

Yeah I figured as much. I started doing the rack and pinion as a pair and at a minimum as by the time the rack is worn out typically so is the pinion. In most cases the tilt is also shot so that gets added to the parts list for the project as well. What you end up with going this route is a brand new steering system that will bring a smile to your face the first time out.

I've done about 4 of these so far for myself and friends and haven't had a single person ***** about the cost after driving the boat the first time.
