We had a similar problem/sound with my brother in laws 05 Malibu response. We changed his out because there was just too much play in the wheel and the tilt. Replaced it all.... tilt, pinion and rack/steering cable. Boat handles like new and is dead silent now. Great upgrade and worth the time.

5 year bump.

I took apart the steering column today due to the rattle out of the holeshot. I got a lot better after I got my prop fixed but there was still some shaking there.

Can anyone that has done this replacement comment on what they think was the culprit of the rattling? Below are two videos. One is the tilt mechanism and the bushing that I THINK is what everyone is referencing as getting worn out. But in this one there really is not that much play. The other video is piece on the steering column that the tilt wheel attaches to, and there is a ton of play in that (but maybe it needs to be that way).

Any feedback on this would be much appreciated. Looking to get things fixed/parts ordered asap. Thanks,
