    Gen1 vrs Gen2 surf

Everyone knows Gen2 is better, but how bad is Gen1? There’s a significant price difference in the used market. Are there any cheap upgrades to make Gen1 better?

Gen 1 does basically nothing. Very small adjustments if anything.

Having owned a 2011 X25, I can say that any suction cup style shaper was more effective than the Gen 1 tabs were.

No comparison. You can get a good surf wave out of gen 1 or previous. Gen 2 is big difference.

Go surf assist is the option you want. There is not a good way to retrofit gen 1 or gen 2 for your 01 205v

I’m not retrofitting my boat. Just kicking the idea up upgrading to something newer.

We don't even bother with the gen 1 system on the 2012 X2 we run. Wake shaper and a couple half filled bags and we can get a really nice wake with just 2 people in the boat and a rider. The problem is you can't piggyback the system so you're stuck manually filling and emptying the bags which is a PITA.

I agree that gen1 overall is no comparison to gen2 in terms of controls, tabs, ballast amount, etc. However gen1 does provide the basic controls required for a surf system and if you either source or make replacement tabs you can have a good surf system at a discount to a gen2 boat. Obviously this requires skills/effort that not all possess, but could be an option for some.
