Which JL Amp? (4x REV 8ís)

Iím currently running two (2) Arc Audio XDi 600.4 amps to power four (4) REV 8ís on my tower. This is in addition to two other amps, one that feeds the cabin speakers, and another that feeds the sub.

As I continue to deal with a whine in the tower speakers when the engine is running, Iím considering tossing the two Arc Audio amps and replacing with a single JL Amp to clean things up and just maybe help fix the whine as I also narrow down potential other issues: new JL twisted rca cables and single power & ground blocks.

So my question is: If you were going to purchase a new JL Amp to feed 4x REV 8ís, what would you buy?

The M800/8 and bridge to put 200 wats to each should be good. You could go to the HD version. Can you move a house battery closer to the amp?

I used the m400/4 bridged to two 8.8" M6 880 Towers and it was way loud and super clear and clean.

Why not a Wetsounds amp to go with the Wetsounds speakers? Syn-DX2 or Syn-DX2.3 HP would both power 4 Rev 8ís

Out of the JL lineup, the DSP MVi800/8 is the best single amp option. 300W rms x 2 @ 2 ohm.

Better options, Wet Sounds Syn-DX2.3HP or Kicker KXMA1200.2. Much more power at a lower cost.

I guess only because every time I read any of these stereo threads, it seems like everyone talks up the JL equip like itís the holy grailÖ. And, because Iím so frustrated with it currently, that I just want it right.

ButÖ that saidÖ I guess I never considered the Wetsounds AmpsÖ so Iíll definitely look into them. Thanks!

I would note that Arc audio is pretty high quality as well.

Remember, the amplifier only amplifies the input. I would try ground loop isolators as well.

Both points are true.

To the OP, if you have 2 amps powering 4 pods, and all 4 pods emit the unwanted noise, I can bet the next amp, will do the same. Would be very odd to have 2 amps experience the exact same issue.

Just verified that myself. Not the amp... at least not in my non-audio know-how expertise... took her on the water and wasted an absolutely gorgeous evening idling and messing. Disconnect both amps, started it it, and discovered it isn't just the tower... its everything. I guess I just couldn't hear the house speakers whining because the tower is SO much louder. So I agree... not an amp issue. Not the fix.

Well…. One of my Arc Audio XDi 600.4 amps driving the tower took a $hit on me over the weekend. It already had a channel going weak, but now it’s got nothing to either speaker that it was powering.

So… I guess I’m back on the hunt for a replacement, which is a good time to also ditch the other 600.4 and just run a single amp to all four (4) Rev-8’s.

I see that the 4x Rev-8 tower speaker package on Wake Makers uses the WS SYN-DX4 4-Channel amp. Will that amp alone deliver a similar sound quality and volume as the two (2) 600.4 amps I was running? The SYN-DX2.3 HP was recommended above, so can someone please explain if that’s a better option, and if so, how I would wire the 4x pairs of speaker wires into a 2-channel amp?

I’d just spend the money on the 2.3HP for sure. Just be conservative with the gain.

You put 2 pairs of wire in per channel.
