92 Indmar 351W New Pertronix distributor timing advance

Greeting fellow MC'ers,

I just put a new Petronix distributor in my 92 351W Indmar motor. The new distributor comes with different springs for the timing advance as the rpm's increase. It is my understanding that it should be set at 10 degrees at idle. I can not find any info on what is called for with this motor the correct timing advance as rpm increases so I can use the correct springs. With the copper color springs we are at:

10 degrees at 800rpm
28 degrees at 1500rpm
39 degrees at 2500rpm

Not sure if this is to much advancement or not...Does anyone have any data on this?

TY in advance,

Shawn

I’ve seen the advance curve but don’t remember where with the stock springs (sorry I don’t remember what they are) my timing numbers are pretty much where yours are. And my engine starts, idles and accelerates flawlessly. ‘92 351HO.

Forget the springs. Plug and play out of the box.

39 is a bit much on the advance but you're close - (34-36 WOT - 4400). However each engine has its own personality and characteristics.
