    Surf tow point

I wanted to add a surf tow point on the side of my tower for pulling my 10 year old and her beginner friends this summer. I saw this Monster Tower tow point for $45 and figured I would give it a try. Installation was easy but required drilling a hole through the tower (being careful to avoid speaker/ light wires).

Replacement swivel tow point for MT1, MT2, or MTE towers. Used on the following tower models: MT1 Tower MT2 Tower MTE Tower

That’s awesome! What is the diameter of your tower tubes?

Great idea. I may have to do this!
Could you post photos from a couple of additional angles?

I'm not sure I would drill a hole for a tow point. It's possible it could end up with a stress crack in the tower.

Yeah, I know that's a doom and gloom perspective and all, but I would not compromise the tower like this.

My ZFT4 tower has the holes for the MC tow bits. I wonder if these could be installed at those locations.

I would not drill holes in the tower.

We just run the rope through the tower for beginners. Does about the same thing, but I have always been curious about a dedicated tow point on the tower.

While it's most likely perfectly fine, the thought of putting holes in the tubing just doesn't seem like a great idea to me. I'd probably be more OK adding a tow point to the flat cross section of the braces between the 2 tower tubes.

I wonder if it can be used in the factory holes.

Does not look like it would be an easy insert and fasten.

                    Here is another pic.
I certainly wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is worried about the effect of drilling holes on the structural integrity of their tower or to anyone who does not feel that it adds convenience. For my uses I am not concerned about breaking my tower and it will add convenience (although, I would be interested to see any evidence of damage to a ZFT4 tower caused by drilling a hole in this location...).

A hole that small, that high up on the tower is not going to be a problem - IMHO.

It looks good. But I cannot see how it makes much of a difference. We don't have any issues with kids and beginners from the main tow point.

I have gone to the slight bother of looping the surf rope to port or starboard top corner of the tower when teaching beginners. We have introduced 40+ noobs to the sport and all have gotten up first or second outing, having the tow point to surfer side is a huge help to new surfer and to driver. Way less intimidating to have new surfer to side, out of wake and boat is less in your face. Also can help to shorten the rope a bit.

The Admiral is the least surfy person we have out, and she can only prevail with the side tow point. Or more accurately, our marriage prevails because of it. Driver can keep wheel turned to surf side at idle, then extended slightly above idle, then slow roll surfer up.

IIRC the OEM surf tow knob mount location was originally on the flat brackets between main tower tubes, at that point it would have little to no structural degradation.

Was there a reason you didn't use the factory location for mounting?

Looks good, but I would have the same concern as some of the others. That's a good place for a crack to propagate from.

                              Surf tow point

OEM surf knob mount location. Small aluminum cover is held on by adhesive, you may need to enlargen hole diameter depending upon tower/knob mount.

This mount location didn’t seem as effective as looping the surf rope up higher at the bend, YMMV.
