1/4" npt barb fitting for oil change

My '19 NXT with 5000 MPI has already had 2 dealer oil changes. I am getting ready to do my first oil change at home.

I know I need the 1/4" NPT barbed fitting for the drain hose out of the rear transom hole. I assume male or female end depends on which pump you are using?

I was going to use the Harbor Freight style pump, would I need a double barb fitting to connect the pump to the engine oil drain hose? (after I warmed up the engine)

I would want to grab my oil analysis sample midway through the draining.

After sucking out all the oil with the pump, do I cap it back up or do let it sit for a while and see if more oil drains naturally?

Thanks!

I think you will struggle with that style pump. I would recommend a vacuum pump similar to a MityVac (fluid extractor). It is more money, but far more useful.
