Nmea 2000?

Anyone know if the newest MCs have a nmea2000 network built into the Murphy Screen/network architecture? Looking to add the Garmin OnDeck Hub to my 18 X46 and trying to determine what nmea2000 functionality (if any) could be used?

Yes, the Murphy controllers have 2 CAN buses. And one of them is setup to be compliant with NMEA2000. To my knowledge, the system uses NMEA2000 protocols for the GPS, Water Depth and Water Temp sensors as well as Audio Integration. There may be other uses as well, but those are the ones I know of from digging through my boat thus far.

Tony,
Were you able to add the Garmin to your boat?

Sadly no. After chatting with Garmin Tech Support multiple times, the OnDeck stand alone system doesn’t come with a GPS antenna and relies on an approved chart plotter for multiple tasks. Standalone the OnDeck system was only able to monitor voltage and bilge water.

Instead I opted to purchase a Directed Smart Start system and have wired that into my 46 to keep an eye on a few parameters. Motion sensor will alert me if the canvas is removed, voltage detection, location/geofencing, and I’m working on grabbing the two positive leads of the bilge dash lights to act as a “door” and “trunk” trigger for water alerts. Overall cheaper than OnDeck, and easier to install.
